Testing out a new nib, I copied this guy from an old engraving. Jaw line beards sans moustache are always a bad sign. Pen, ink and watercolour. 9cm x 13cm. Click to enlarge.
I treasure nibs..... (sounds weird)... I have a collection that dont want to work (must be the angle of my hand or something) I Personally blame the pen.... ... so when one does...er work, its precious.... !
Jaw-line beard - no central heating in those days - gotta keep that neck warm! Love the engraved/woodcut look of this piece Ellis. Love those nibs, too. I've got a bunch of very old Speedball nibs that I treasure. I like to take them out for a spin, now and again.
Beautifully drawn and a very convincing look of a woodcut! I've always thought the sans moustache was an odd look too, since Thoreau had it also maybe it's okay! ;)

Scarily beautiful! & I'm a nib nut too. Hunt 108 is my constant companion.
Nicely rendered. You kept the feel of the woodcut while giving it a nice inking style. For some reason, I was especially drawn to the hat.

Hello! That's very nice picture with lovely atmosphere. I like it very much. With best regards. V.
This pic reminds me of Fagin (think thats how you spell it!) out of Oliver Twist! Cracking illo ;-)
yea , but with a great nose like that he can pull off the sans-moustache bit.
fab lines and you've got to love a nose like that. so what's the nib?
Oh, you did a wonderful job. Read my "nib review" that I wrote awhile back(just use the search button)
saw a guy, just like that, out in amish country...lancaster, pa. he had that look too, like "so you think you know what i'm all about, eh?"
