Giftune

A birthday card for my old mate Leon Hale. "Giftune" means something like "a fit bird" in Polish, although that's an English phoneticism.
Watercolour 16.5cm x 9cm. Click to enlarge. Sold.

Actually, I think you'll find it's pronounced Gift-Tune (like iTune, but a gift, being a birthday and all).

Well that's how I pronounce it, so it must be pronounced like that, no?

Phonemic hegemony is surely the most insiduous of them all, wouldn't ya say?

Word verification: emkhyeb (a fat, smelly bird). Pronunciation: "I'm a cabbage"

Or perhaps 'enutfig' ['e'silent] as in figment.
Whatever, it is a treat.
