Oestrogenic man

Oestrogens tablets are often used to treat prostate cancer. About 30% of all patients treated with oestrogens develop tummy pain, wind and nausea. There are mood changes too and all patients suffer from swelling of the breasts which may be very tender and most unpleasant.

I have a post-operative transgendered M to F pal who I spent some time with in Dublin last year - she was pre-op at the time. She is in a unique position to testify to the powerful effects hormones have on us, having lived with testosterone most of her life and being a fairly aggressive soldier by profession, and then switching to oestrogen. Bloating, hot flushes, a marked decrease in aggression (which pissed her off sometimes when she found herself being unnecessarily apologetic in the normal course of life) and more labile moods were some of the things she noticed besides the obvious effects of decreased beardage and increased boobage. She watched a whole pile of old classic films again and she said it was a completely different experience to watching them as a man. All anecdotal, of course, but it's interesting for sure. It must be a hell of an ordeal to go through though, if it isn't an elected thing. I hope oestrogenic man gets better.
